I will not quote it all here, for sake of space on this page, but encourage everyone to carefully read the Song of Solomon or Song of Songs found in Scripture, as the foundation for this exhortation to be lovers of Christ.
In the Old Testament we find the things that happened in the earth to be orchestrated by God in such a way as to serve as types and shadows of eternal reality. That is, the natural/physical events and people serve as a tutor teaching us of spiritual things, if we have eyes to see and ears to hear what the Spirit is saying. Since this article is not meant as a teaching article to prove this principle, look it up and study it out yourself. Thank God for modern tools to search Scripture and word definitions with! \o/ Hallelujah for the resources he gives us!
With that in mind, the Song of Solomon acts as a symbolism of the new covenant relationship with Christ, the Son of David. Solomon was the son of David in the natural, who inherited his throne, as promised. But Yahshua (Jesus) of Nazareth is the prophetically promised Son of David who will sit on the throne through the ages.
When you read this book with such understanding, that it has a mystical message within it, that the historical relationship of Solomon and the Shunamite represents, you can find new inspiration for your passionate love relationship with Christ.
Some will not see the importance of this, and may even mock this understanding.
The Church of Ephesus is rebuked in the book of Revelations, by Christ, for leaving their first love relationship with him. Their passionate fiery love had gone out, and they were left with barely burning embers. They still did good works, and still had pretty good doctrine, but Christ was more concerned that their fire for him had dwindled.
The Church of Laodicea was likewise rebuked for not being hot, but being lukewarm instead. In fact, they were told in strong language how much this displeases the Lord. He warned them that if they continued being religiously lukewarm, he’d vomit them up out of his mouth. Basically, such makes him sick, as the expression goes.
We find this much in the churches today.
The point of having a relationship with Christ is not head knowledge of good and evil. The mistake the first man and woman made was trying to gain knowledge of good and evil, thinking such would make them like God. Knowledge of good and evil will not make us like God or pleasing to God. When knowledge of such is gained outside of an intimate relationship with God, it will only lead to death. We must eat of the Tree of Life (Christ) to have eternal life.
Jesus tried teaching the Jews about this in John 6, but many were offended and left him. Why? They were only interpreting what he said superficially, judging it based on their natural understanding of the knowledge of good and evil (the wrong tree to be eating). His meaning was actually mystical, not literal.
We must become lovers of Christ, his very Bride. We individually must passionately pursue a love relationship with him like the Shunamite did with Solomon, or any good wife does her husband. We must seek to come into spiritual union with him.
Above all else we explore spiritually in God, we should passionately explore this love relationship with Christ. If we are not head-over-heals in love with him, but once were, we have left our first love. There is a real relationship to be had, that is experiential.
Those who deny such and believe that we only know him through Scripture, are denying the very teaching of Scripture they claim to adhere to. Scripture teaches the experiential relationship with God from cover to cover. The religious throughout the generations missed this and misunderstood the message of God in Scripture. The Pharisees who opposed Jesus are good examples of this, having stumbled over the stumbling stone, though they mentally knew Scripture better than anyone.
May you find fullness of joy in a passionate love relationship with God in Christ, and never turn back! His goodness is worth exploring and is not disappointing!
