How To Supercharge Spiritual Growth Part 2.5

Posted June 10th, 2010 by David

This is going to be a very brief part of this series, but includes an activity for those who want to get hands on!

Here is the activity:
Supplies: 1. A cardboard box of whatever size you have available or can quickly get. 2. An index card or piece of paper. 3. A writing utensil. 4. Some aggression. 5. A camera. 6. A trash can or recycle bin big enough for the cardboard box, or a fire pit to dispose of it in.

Take your cardboard box and set it up on the floor so that only the top is opened like in the article picture. Take your index card or paper and writing utensil and legibly write, “My dear child, I do not fit in your box. -God” Place the card in the box and take a picture of it so you have it to look at periodically as a reminder. Take the card out of the box and keep that as well if you like. Now, harness some aggression from inside (this is good stress relief) however you do it, and thrash the box and tear it into pieces! Be careful not to hurt yourself in the process (lol). For those of you who like to play with fire, use a fire pit or fireplace or some other SAFE method to burn the box and enjoy watching it burn! Or, a third option is to do both – tear it into pieces first, and then burn them in the fire! Once you are finished if you chose the first option, discard of the torn pieces into a trash can or preferably a recycling bin.

Know that ideas about god you can put in your mental, religious, experiential box, is not the Eternal creator himself, in whom we live, move and have our being, who is far to grand to be boxed in by our minds, religious thinking and traditions, or even thus far limited spiritual experiences. Scripture itself tells us it’s purpose, and it is not a comprehensive book including everything God has ever done, is doing, will do, or a full description of the Infinite God. It is for foundation of faith in God’s Word to mankind and a guide pointing to God through Christ, that we might come to enter into sonship and relationship with God as our Father and exist in such union eternally, which mankind was created for.

We do not need fear the unknown, or that if we do not remain narrow and closed-minded in religiosity that we will be misled or deceived. Our heavenly Father is big enough to be our Potter and get us to the eternal existence he’s designed for us with him and the whole household of heaven.  Don’t put God in a box, but follow his instructions in Scripture about how to enter proper relationship through Christ, and grow spiritually from faith to faith, and glory to glory, as you come to walk in communion with the Eternal in Christ.

More will follow in part 3.
